| NEWS The Super Legend Progresses
Announced at Sun 'n Fun 2011—a.k.a. Run 'n Duck—American Legend Aircraft Company announced the forthcoming Super Legend. The Super Legend boasts the same power-to-weight ratio as a 150-HP Super Cub yet qualifies as an LSA.
Expect the same great airframe as the Legend Cub, equipped with Super Cub-style flaps, 32-gallon fuel system, and balanced tail feathers. A Lycoming 233 Series lightweight engine takes the Super Legend to a true 115 horsepower at 2,800 rpm and is multi-fuel capable, operating on both 100LL and unleaded automotive fuel.
Instrument panel choices on the Super Legend are: Low and Slow (LS), Cross Country Night VFR (XC), and Legend Smart Cub (SC). The Super Legend also features lightweight carbon fiber components, a body-conforming adjustable seat, and optional toe brakes. Standard features adopted from the Legend Cub are its three-inch wider cabin, double doors, and the ability to solo from the front or rear seat.

ADVENTURE Couple's Choice Over Which To Fly Comes Down To A Cub
Based in Spruce Creek, Florida, Bob and Lee Blankenship took delivery of their new Legend Cub last June. The couple are active members in Florida Cub Flyers where their blue and yellow Legend Cub Special really stands out. While reminiscing about lake bank landings and water skiing episodes, Lee points out that their Cub also attracts the attention of animals. She recounts flying among eagles and spotting their nests, watching cranes and turtles on roadways while flying low, rustling turkeys off runways, and glimpsing a red fox dart across an airfield. Lee contends that these sightings are one of the reasons why she so enjoys her "low and slow" flying.
Now one year old, the Blankenship's Cub has logged approximately 110 hours. The couple shares their flying time with a Bonanza and a vintage J-3—their previously owned Cessna was sold recently into Puerto Rico. Lee articulated, "I enjoy flying the Legend Cub the most. It is easy to fly and very comfortable. It's beginning to feel like an old shoe." She continued, comparing to their J-3, "Even with a [Garmin] 696 in the panel, I can appreciate the simplicity of flying. The Legend Cub offers much better visibility and I prefer not to have to hand prop a plane. The bottom line is... it's fun, with many modern conveniences."

ADVENTURE The Future of Fishing Vessels
"Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing—absolutely nothing—half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats." Written by Kenneth Grahame in his classic children's book The Wind in the Willows.
The same can be said about planes. Ron Bishop personifies this sentiment with his flying fishing boat based on his Legend AmphibCub. "Here are the photos of both the trolling motor and the rod holders." Bishop's configuration includes a portable power unit with battery and depth finder with digital readout.

ADVENTURE Award-winning AmphibCub Survives Run 'n Duck
Charlie Pickett first encountered the Legend AmphibCub at the 2010 International Seaplane Fly-In in Greenville, Maine, and was immediately sold on one. Construction of his new AmphibCub began at the end of 2010. On delivery, Pickett elected to join American Legend for the 2011 Cub Convoy to Sun-n-Fun. While at the show, both Charlie and the AmphibCub survived the now historic tornado without a scratch. Since returning to his hometown in Massachusetts, he’s been busy visiting nearby ponds and lakes, as well as making trips to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.

TRAINING Learning With The Legendary Bruce Bohannon
35-Time world record setter Bruce Bohannon enjoys time away from aerobatics and racing at his private airport, Flyin' Tiger Field (81D) near Houston. Here Bohannon offers flight training in a Legend Cub. "It's the perfect aircraft for taildragger check outs and for learning to fly. It makes a great classroom and people learn real stick and rudder skills flying a Legend. Once trained on a Legend, people have no issues transitioning to other aircraft.” Bohannon loves the comfortable back seat that is ideal for the many hours every day he spends in his plane. Bohannon concluded, "The Legend Cub is a delight to fly."

TRAINING Tailwheel Airplane Endorsement Requirements
While a tailwheel endorsement can possibly be accomplished efficiently and safely within a few hours of flight training, 14 CFR 61.31(i) does require at a minimum the following maneuvers and procedures be performed:
- Normal and crosswind takeoffs and landings
- Wheel landings (landing on the main gear while holding the tail off the ground)
- Go-around procedures.
AOPA summarizes the Tailwheel Airplane Endorsement requirements in their online Pilot Information Center. Here is an excerpt on what's required: www.legend.aero/Tailwheel_Airplane_Endorsement.html

READBACK The Legend Cub Experience
From reader William Loftin, via email...
Yesterday evening I had the best flight lesson ever. I am a student pilot with 33 hours of instruction and starting my cross-country training. My normal plane had a schedule problem and my instructor managed to get me a flight in one of your Legend Cubs. All I can say is WOW… a joy to fly! The Cessna I had been flying will feel like a rock now. I got 0.9 hours in the Legend Cub. I LOVE IT! After I get my Private Pilot License, I will have to sweet-talk the owner here in Bakersfield to teach me the tailwheel endorsement. Oh, and to make it even that much better, today is my birthday and flying in your aircraft made my birthday the best ever. By the way, I grew up in Bonham, TX, just north of you guys. Thanks. Keep up the good work!

Speaking about the competition...
It's a good plane and we'd like to match their pricing. But we'd have to raise ours.
