American Legend Aircraft Company Delivers 14 Aircraft and Records Multiple Achievements in its First Year of Operation

SULPHUR SPRINGS, TEXAS, JANUARY 3, 2006 – American Legend Aircraft Company announced today the 14th delivery of its Legend Cub production aircraft. The delivery marks the end of a very successful 2005 for the company. Legend lists among its first year achievements:

First Flight – In a celebratory public event from its home airport in Sulphur Springs, Texas, American Legend presented and flew its prototype Legend Cub for the first time on March 11, 2005. This event commemorated 75 years since the first appearance of the widely recognized Cub design.

First Cross Country – With the goal of a Legend Cub public debut at Sun ‘n Fun 2005, American Legend fabricated two flying prototypes in three months time. These aircraft, code-named Daphne and Tweety, set out on a 2-day trek from Texas to central Florida in what was to be their first cross-country flight.

First Order – American Legend took its 1st order for the Legend Cub prior to Sun ‘n Fun in April 2005. At the show, orders for more than seven additional aircraft were secured while interest in the Legend Cub swelled.

LSA Tour – American Legend Aircraft Company participated in a nationwide tour to promote the newly created Sport Pilot rules. The Legend Cub made stops in St. Louis, Missouri; Franklin, Pennsylvania; McKinney, Texas; and Camarillo, California; offering press and customer prospects an up close look, as well as demonstrations, of the aircraft.

LAMA Member – While on the LSA tour, American Legend also made an appearance with Light Aircraft Manufacturers Association (LAMA) at Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) headquarters in Frederick, Maryland, on June 20, 2005. There, the Legend Cub was recognized as an airplane that typified the LSA category for its ease of operation and its proven and familiar design.

Sentimental Favorite – The Legend Cub participated in the annual Sentimental Journey Fly-In in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, on June 22, 2005. At this event, American Legend was greeted by Cub purists who commended the company for bringing back to production an aircraft dear to the hearts of many pilots. Understanding that the Legend Cub was a new and modern version of their beloved aircraft, attendees were delighted with the Legend Cub’s enhancements to the basic design. Modern manufacturing techniques and increased performance make the Cub as viable today as it was 75 years ago.

FAA Certification – On July 21, 2005, American Legend Aircraft Company was awarded type certification of its Legend Cub as a light-sport aircraft. Certification was achieved just prior to the Legend Cub making its first of many future annual appearances at AirVenture-Oshkosh.

Custom-Equipped – On October 7, 2005, Legend delivered its third production Legend Cub to a customer from La Quinta, California. The ceremonial handover took place at Copper State Regional EAA Fly-In in Casa Grande, Arizona. The delivery was significant as not only the third production aircraft completed to a customer’s specification, but equally important for being outfitted with an advanced avionics suite. This customer opted to equip his Legend Cub with the TIS-capable Garmin GNC 420 GPS/Comm with Garmin 330 Transponder and the 7-inch diagonal Dynon Avionics EFIS-D100 display. According to Dynon, the Legend Cub was the first production aircraft to be equipped with the new D100.

Ground Breaking – In December 2005, American Legend announced the construction of a new facility that will house its aircraft production operations and a new customer delivery center. Construction of two buildings, a 20,000-square-foot hangar and an adjacent 5,000-square-foot hangar, more than doubled the company’s leased and owned facilities to 45,000 square feet.

American Legend Aircraft Company was conceived in the Fall of 2004, by Tim Elliott and Darin Hart. Construction of the first prototype began in February 2005, following a comprehensive design study and fabrication of assembly fixtures. In less than twelve months, American Legend built, certified, and delivered aircraft to fourteen customers.

Most notable among the first year accomplishments of American Legend Aircraft Company is the commitment to meeting customer demands for a great aircraft. American Legend has proven, through its rapid startup and successful first deliveries, it is a company that understands the needs of the marketplace. American Legend is both experienced and seasoned in the process of bringing to market a great aircraft.

Tim Elliott, president of American Legend Aircraft Company, commented on the company’s first year of operation, “The most important goal of American Legend since the company’s inception was to keep all manufacturing and delivery promises. We firmly believe that a promise made must be kept. The company has met, and exceeded in some cases, all customer commitments. In addition to being able to count fourteen satisfied Legend Cub owners among our family of friends, we are extremely pleased with the company as a whole and the progress we have made in our first year of operation.”

The Legend Cub is a two-place, single-engine aircraft designed to meet light-sport aircraft certification requirements. It has an empty weight of 850 lbs. The Legend Cub is propelled by a 100-horsepower Continental O–200 engine with electric start. Equipped with optional floats, the aircraft is capable of water takeoffs and landings. The Legend Cub is bringing back the enjoyment and economics of general aviation aircraft to today’s flying enthusiast.
