SULPHUR SPRINGS, TEXAS, FEBRUARY 28, 2007 – American Legend Aircraft Company announced today the delivery of 88 customer airplanes since the company’s inception. The Legend Cub received its type certification on July 21, 2005. The delivery total highlights the end of a very successful 2006 for the company. American Legend lists among its 2006 achievements:
Advisory Board Appointed – On March 10, 2006, American Legend Aircraft Company announced the naming of three key persons to the company’s advisory board. These appointments include Clyde Smith Jr., notable Cub historian and restoration expert; Danny Goggans, self-proclaimed Cub enthusiast, superb Cub pilot, and a commercial rated pilot; and Rich Giannotti, first Legend Cub customer. The American Legend Aircraft Company Advisory Board is key to ensuring that Legend customers derive the greatest satisfaction from ownership of their Legend Cub.
Legends Among Cub Convoy – American Legend Aircraft Company arrived at Sun ‘n Fun Fly-in on April 3, 2006, among the esteemed Convoy of Cubs. Five Legend Cubs joined the gaggle of Cub aircraft making the eight-mile final on their journeys to Lakeland Linder Airport, Florida. The 2006 Cub Convoy commemorated the 70th anniversary of the event.
Educating With Lincoln Electric – At Sun ‘n Fun and AirVenture-Oshkosh 2006, in cooperation with Lincoln Electric Company, American Legend displayed the precision manufacture of its Legend Cub. The two companies shared exhibit space at these events sharing the welding techniques involved in the fabrication of an actual Legend Cub airframe.
Best Float Plane – Best Float Fabric Seaplane Award at Sun ‘n Fun 2006 was awarded to the American Legend FloatCub. Making a splash at Jack Brown’s Seaplane Base there, the Legend FloatCub performed daily demonstrations of water takeoffs and landings. The Legend FloatCub also participated in the two-day Splash-In event at nearby Lake Parker.
Legend Cub Is Special – On April 3, 2006, American Legend Aircraft Company introduced the Legend Cub Special, a Legend Cub 2-place light-sport aircraft variant with an array of standard features, most notably a blue and gold two-tone paint scheme. The Legend Cub Special comes equipped with a number of customer-demanded features such as leather interior, GPS Nav/Comm avionics and an interior/exterior lighting package.
A Cub With Glass – Modern aircraft merit advanced avionics. Today’s Legend Cub is no exception. Many Legend Cubs come equipped with the Dynon FlightDEK-D180, a combination EFIS and engine monitor. The D180 is a single-box solution for light aircraft with an impressive list of features. A Dynon glass panel provides Legend Cub customers with an excellent set of tools for enhancing pilot skills and improving safety. In 2006, American Legend was distinguished as being the first FlightDEK-D180 customer.
Legend Combat For Old Times Sake – American Legend Aircraft Company debuted its Legend Combat at the Experimental Aviation Association’s (EAA) Southwest Regional Fly-in in Hondo, Texas, on May 12th. With its olive drab paint decorated with star-and-bars markings, the Legend Combat is reminiscent of the 1940’s Piper L-4, L-18 and L-21s produced as liaison aircraft for the U.S. Army and Air Force, and commonly nicknamed “Grasshopper.” The aptness of the Legend Cub and Legend Combat to grass strip takeoffs and landings is something to behold still today.
Calling KSLR Home – In late 2005, American Legend broke ground and announced the construction of new facilities to house the company’s aircraft production operations and customer delivery center at Sulphur Springs Municipal Airport (KSLR). In May 2006, the company took occupancy of these new facilities where production averages one to one-and-a-half new aircraft per week.
1st Jabiru Delivery – In July 2006, American Legend Aircraft Company announced the completion and delivery of its first Jabiru-equipped Legend Cub sporting the 120-horsepower, 6-cylinder, Jabiru 3300A Aero Engine. The Jabiru engine offers Legend Cub owners lower fuel burn, smooth operation, higher useful load, shortened takeoff distance, and increased rate of climb.
Cub Fractional Ownership – American Legend Aircraft Company selected LetsFly.org to provide shared ownership positions on a factory new Legend Cubs. This agreement provides first time buyers, and those with limited resources, the opportunity to partake in aircraft ownership. LetsFly.org not only provides the aircraft, but supports owners through its training, maintenance and other aircraft management programs.
American Legend Supports General Aviation – At AirVenture 2006, American Legend Aircraft Company sponsored the EAA debut of the documentary film One Six Right. In addition to a packed-house high-definition screening, DVD sales of the movie were brisk during the 7-day event. A life-size exhibit of the film’s movie poster featured a Legend Cub suspended over a mock rendition of the runway 16R. Proceeds from the DVD sales helped to fund the EAA’s Young Eagles program.
Traffic-Alert Cub – In September 2006, American Legend delivered its first Legend Cub complete with the advanced Traffic Advisory System TAS600-series by Avidyne. The system detects and actively interrogates nearby aircraft transponders, displays traffic, and provides audible alerts. The equipment was a customer-demanded option because he simply “would not fly an airplane without one!”
Cub Homecoming – A brisk October weekend in 2006 was the backdrop for Legend Cub aircraft owners, pilots, company employees and invited guests gathering at the first homecoming celebration of the Legend Cub light-sport certified aircraft. The event took place at the company’s headquarters. Activities included tours of manufacturing, question and answer sessions, discussions of ongoing developments and product improvements, demonstrations, training flights and check rides, aircraft inspections and the installations of optional equipment.
