American Legend Customer Wins Grand Champion Award With J3 Cub Restoration

SULPHUR SPRINGS, TEXAS, AUGUST 18, 2008 – American Legend Aircraft Company announced today its customer is the recipient the Grand Champion Gold Lindy Award at EAA AirVenture 2008 for the company’s work on restoring a classic Piper J3 Cub. EAA’s (Experimental Aircraft Association) awards are recognized worldwide as the most prestigious for aircraft construction and restoration. The Grand Champion is the highest award for a particular class of aircraft.

Joe Dobransky of Allen, TX, owner of a classic 1946 Piper J3C-65 Cub, was awarded 2008 Grand Champion Gold Lindy in the EAA’s Classic Aircraft category (aircraft manufactured from September 1945 thru 1955). The EAA holds its annual judging competition at AirVenture—a migration of aviation enthusiasts from around the world—in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Thousands of aircraft are flown-in and put on display. The awards are given by fellow members to recognize outstanding achievements. Dobransky’s restored Cub is the result of countless hours of work, and painstaking attention to detail, to preserve the classic aircraft.

Overjoyed with the results of his aircraft restoration, Dobransky exclaimed, “My gratitude goes out to American Legend, and in particular to the crew who brought ‘Triple One’ (registration no. N70111) back to life. Their attention to detail, commitment to originality, and quality of workmanship was truly appreciated and unsurpassed. Many thanks!”

The restoration work performed by American Legend Aircraft Company was summed up by Pat Bowers, a project lead at the company, “This particular job was an enormous effort that began as a trailer load of aircraft parts. The aircraft required a complete teardown. Each component was disassembled, inspected, and evaluated. Each newly replaced or overhauled part was built to Piper’s original specifications. This required original documentation and knowledge gained from industry experts as well as our own experience. We are particularly grateful to Joe for his dedication to the project. We are extremely proud to see him receive this award.”

American Legend Aircraft Company is an experienced builder and restorer of classic aircraft, as well as a past award winner. In 1991, Darin Hart, one of the company’s founders, received an EAA Lindy Award for his restoration work on a 1946 Piper J3C-65 Cub. This earlier project also involved the efforts of Bowers along with Floyd Ridgely, both presently with American Legend. The current restoration team includes Herman Harbuck, another highly experienced builder. Then, as now, the team is recognized for their immaculate restoration work.

American Legend Aircraft Company manufacturers the Legend Cub, Legend FloatCub, Legend Combat, and Legend Cub Special—all FAA-certified aircraft for sport, recreation and training. The company’s restoration services division performs work on most tube-and-fabric aircraft, and manufactures parts to original manufacturer’s specifications.
