Legend Cub Now Available With TruTrak EFIS

SULPHUR SPRINGS, TEXAS, JULY 27, 2009 – American Legend Aircraft Company announced today the availability of the TruTrak EFIS SG in its “Glass Panel” Legend Cub certified light-sport aircraft. The advanced TruTrak EFIS (Electronic Flight Information System) SG is a 7-inch diagonal unit combining primary flight instruments including VSI, artificial horizon, and slip indicator, into a single photo-quality display.

TruTrak Flight Display Systems of Springdale, Arkansas, has been developing advanced avionics since the company was founded in 1991. Their product line includes autopilots and servos, and gyro-driven analog and digital flight instruments. The EFIS SG provides display of airspeed, altitude, heading, vertical speed, pitch, and bank angle, as well as engine data if so equipped. A standard feature of the TruTrak unit includes a built-in flight director—unique among glass panels in its class. Overall, the unit delivers a bright, bold display and an innovative layout. Basic pricing for the EFIS SG is $3,800. It weighs just over two pounds. Its compact size fits well in the Legend Cub instrument panel. It is certified and used for primary instrumentation, and integrates easily with analog instruments and input devices. An optional autopilot provides roll and pitch control.

Unique features of the EFIS SG include its simulated digital display of analog primary flight instruments. These include a round airspeed and altimeter, ball inclinometer, dial-style turn indicator, an elliptical HSI/CDI (horizontal situation / course deviation indicators). The familiar look of these instruments improves readability; the TruTrak’s round airspeed and altitude dials rotate about a fixed pointer for quick recognition. The elliptical shape of the HSI/CDI accentuates the relevant area of the readout with a broader scale at the top where it is read. The fixed-angle horizon set against moving pitch, angle, and turn readouts makes holding altitude easier. The built-in flight director at the display’s center reinforces the simplicity of the layout. The EFIS SG integrates easily with TruTrak autopilot systems.

David Greene, American Legend customer, commented on the EFIS SG installation in his Legend Cub, “I fly both an advanced composite aircraft and a Legend Cub. I can attest that today’s pilots prefer glass in any airplane. There are many benefits of EFIS displays. The technology is here to stay and all new aircraft are embracing it. I have the best of both worlds with my classic Cub plus the most modern avionics.”

American Legend Aircraft Company was the first aircraft manufacturer to install the TruTrak EFIS SG. It was introduced in Spring 2008. Additionally, in July 2007, American Legend installed its first autopilot, a TruTrak system, in a Legend Cub. Although Cubs are considered to be primarily VFR aircraft, and often flown with minimal use of instruments, a well-equipped Legend Cub can make cross-country and around-the-patch flying more enjoyable and significantly reduce pilot workload.

The Legend Cub is a two-place, single engine piston-powered aircraft designed to meet light-sport aircraft certification requirements. The Legend Cub equipped with the TruTrak EFIS SG is available today. American Legend continues to be an industry leader in bringing new technology to sport and recreational aircraft.
