Derived from the 235 series engines, the IO-233 is a lightweight engine designed for light-sport aircraft. Incorporates throttle body fuel injection with an optimized air induction system and electronic spark ignition within a proven engine.
The 233 combines the rugged reliability of Lycoming’s 235 family with a lightweight package capable of running on low octane unleaded automotive fuels as well as aviation gasoline. Additional engine features include dual CDI spark ignition, an optimized oil sump, a streamlined accessory housing, self-adjusting hydraulic valve lifters, a lightweight starter, and a lightweight alternator with integral voltage regulator. Both carbureted and Lycoming’s proprietary throttle body fuel-injected versions are available. The 233’s dry weight of 213 pounds includes the fuel pump; the engine is rated for continuous power up to 115 Hp at 2800 rpm. TBO is 2200 hours.
